Jack is SIX! His Big Day + the Gifts He's Loving

Somehow, I blinked and my little boy turned six.

Six feels like such a fun age. He is old enough to have very specific opinions about what he loves, but still young enough to get really excited about the little things. He is curious, energetic, always building or creating something, and somehow manages to turn just about anything into an adventure.

For his birthday this year, we tried to choose gifts that weren’t just going to get opened, played with for five minutes, and forgotten about. I wanted things that would encourage him to get outside, create, build, imagine, learn, and just be a kid.

The Birthday Boy 🎂

Jack is smart, sweet, curious, determined, loyal, and a hard worker. When he loves something he loves it big. Current favorites include his family, sonic, the color red, sports, teslas, transformers, and legos! He was defintiley easy to shop for.

Jack is not a hard boy to please. Instead of a big party, he opted for an afternoon at the nickel arcade with his best friend (his cousin) followed by pizza, cake, and presents. He felt so loved all day and had the best time, but by the end of the day he was most excited to open his presents.

The Gifts He Was Most Excited About

I tried to be intentional about choosing gifts that fit who he is right now, rather than just buying a bunch of random toys.

This was his most requested gift and for some reason he was skeptical that I could find them in his favorite color. But mom always delivers and I think they were even better than he expected with light up wheels and a perfect fit. His big sister has taken on the job of teaching him all the tricks and he's already picking it up surprisingly well! No wipe outs yet, but we did get him this new helmet just in case...

[GIFT #2]: Football + Gloves

Jack recently started flag football and getting him some equipment to encourage practicing and playing at home seemed like an obvious choice. We also love watching and attending BYU football games so naturally his gloves had to rep our favorite team!

Jack has a deep love for legos and we always make sure to get him a new set each birthday! He loves the Sonic movies (you'll notice he chose his sonic shirt for his birthday outfit lol) so this one was an easy win! He put it together the same day and has played with it and expanded the scene with his other legos.

This gift was from gram gram and papa and it was such a hit, Jack took it to school for his birthday show and tell. It's realistic slithering and tongue moving in and out was a little on the creepy side for me, but it was a hit with all the little boys!

Believe me when I tell you I saved the best for last. This is a must-have gift and I will recommend and buy it for every little boy I know! This build-your-own foosball kit comes with everything you need to build a minature version of this classic game. It is put together with wooden pieces, foam pieces, and rubber bands. It can seem overwhelming at first and might need some parental guidance, but Jack completed this all on his own and it gets pulled out for every play date and cousin sleepover!

I might have to do a deep dive on this toy because it really is such a great stem activity that finishes with a game that will get played over and over again. There is also a pinball version that we got for him last year and it is still a favorite toy in our house for all ages.

A Few More Birthday Gift Ideas

And because I could apparently spend an unreasonable amount of time looking for things a six-year-old might love, here is a full collection of these ideas and more for the birthday boy in your life!
